Each appliance can be be comprehensively tested to meet the exacting requirements of the IEE code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of electrical equipment. It is a legal requirement to have appliances tested to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989.
It is now a legal requirement to have electrical appliances and leads tested for safety where they are being used outside the home and come into contact with the public. If you take a portable TV for example, into a Care Home or even a Hospital, or you are using electrical equipment in a public place it must be tested for electrical safety.
