What is a Transponder Key? A Transponder key is fitted with an electronic chip. When the key is inserted in to the ignition and turned on a signal is transmitted to the chip in the key from the transmitter behind the dashboard. If the key chip responds with the correct answer you can start the car, if not you just flatten your battery. This device has been fitted to cars from 1994/5 onwards and has been successful in significantly reducing car thefts.
