Schematic Representation of Influenza Virus
Hemagglutinin is shown as rods and neuraminidase as spikes. Influenza virus has ten different proteins, two of which are HA and NA. The biochemical characteristics of these two proteins (glycoproteins) determine the different serotypes of influenza A virus. M1 and M2 are matrix proteins. Types A, B, and C are determined by the nucleoproteins.
